Hear from our Interview Coach, Jill image

Jill has been volunteering as an interview coach for over 12 months now. Hear what she has to say about working at Smart Works Newcastle.

👉Why did you apply to be a volunteer?

I applied to be a volunteer because I am passionate and committed to supporting women in the North East to gain confidence, find employment and realise their potential. Smart Works is an organisation that is aligned to my personal and professional values and it makes such a difference to women’s lives. My career in HR, learning and development, coaching and as a senior manager felt like a really good fit and an opportunity to give something back to the North East community.

👉What do you enjoy about volunteering?

I love being a volunteer because every day is different. We meet incredible women, many have overcome significant challenges and barriers to employment. Being able to support them is a great privilege and at times a very humbling experience. There is nothing more rewarding that seeing a woman grow in confidence after her time with us. The support from other volunteers and the staff team is amazing and I count myself very lucky to be part of Smart Works Newcastle.

👉 What would you say to someone thinking of volunteering with us?

If you are thinking of becoming a volunteer, then please apply. I have been with Smart Works Newcastle for just over a year and I have never regretted a minute of it. It is welcoming, challenging at times, but there is always support for you. Overall, it gives me a real sense of joy to work with the women we support and I am proud to be part of Smart Works and recommend you apply for a role and join us.
