Our first Volunteer Cohort Day! The Girls Network image

Yesterday we invited a group from The Girls Network into our centre to take part in our new ‘Volunteer Group Days’.

The girls spent the day sorting clothing donations, preparing for our upcoming sale, swapping our summer stock for winter items, dressing mannequins and more! The purpose of the day is to provide women with experiences that they can list on their CV and talk about during interviews for jobs or college courses. Examples of transferable skills gained during the day include teamwork, communication, visual merchandising, organisation and commercial awareness.

All attendees also had a one-to-one coaching session with our Interview volunteer Sarah, where they could discuss their plans after leaving school, build their confidence and get advice on writing CV’s to stand out amongst the crowd!

The Girls Network aim to inspire and empower girls from the least advantaged communities by connecting them with a mentor and a network of professional female role models. They are a brilliant organisation that we are so proud to work alongside.

We will be running Volunteer Group Days once a month, and any cohort of unemployed women can attend. If you are working with a group of women who may benefit from our Volunteer Group Days please get in contact!
